green Every website begins with an idea. In some cases the idea is, 'I want a website'. Not very inspiring I admit but it is an idea.

In the majority of cases however most people have some sort of idea as to what they want their web site to do. And it is usually one or more of the following:

I want to sell something.
I want to provide information.
I want to entertain.

Transforming these ideas into an effective website takes a little effort. It's no good hoping a £40 website in box will suddenly make you a millionaire or an affiliate scheme will allow to retire next year. You need to do some work to make it happen. Over the years I have developed a web-design process that can be summarized as:

Decide what you want to site to achieve.
Consider the needs of your potential customers.
Deliver a website the meets those needs.

But it isn't easy - there are a whole host of things that can stand in the way of your success. But following the rules and seeking advice can make the difference between building an effective website and falling by the wayside.
